IT'S ALIVE

It's Alive

Did you know that your blood is alive?
It’s true. Each drop of blood is full of living red and white blood cells that deliver essential elements and remove harmful waste.
Without blood, your body would stop working. And without the heart, your blood would stop flowing.

  • The great transportation sysytem

Think of your blood as a transportation system that allows your body to live, grow, and thrive. Blood carries oxygen, nutrients, and disease-fighting substances from the lungs to various body tissue. Once the blood delivers that precious cargo, it picks up carbon dioxide for delivery to the lungs and waste for delivery to the kidneys.

  • What's it made of?

Approximately 55% of blood is plasma, a straw-colored, clear liquid that transports blood cells, microbe-fighting antibodies, and platelets that cause blood to clot. Although plasma is 90% water, it also contains dissolved salts and minerals such as calcium, sodium, magnesium, and potassium.
